79 million people in the US and one in three people in the UK currently have HPV. Often the body’s immune system can clear the virus on its own, but sometimes HPV causes health problems such as warts or lesions. More serious lesions are known as ‘precancer’ because these can progress to cancer if left untreated.
While an HPV infection itself cannot be cured, the good news is that some of the effects of the infection, such as Warts and Precancerous Lesions, can be treated to remove or lessen their effects or prevent them from progressing to anything more serious. Please see our sections on warts and precancer below for more information and please Contact Us if you cannot find the information you need.
