Volunteer / Intern

Our volunteers provide a crucial backbone for our efforts to improve the lives of cancer thrivers and prevent future cancer cases. Volunteers share their expertise with us in the communications, technological and fundraising fields. Their support is invaluable whether they are in our home offices in the US or UK or providing support at the forums and conferences we organize and attend. We recognize that for many of you, your most valuable asset is time, and we are so appreciative to everyone who has donated theirs.

Our greatest area of need for volunteers is to help with our Peer to Peer Support Programme

The relationship between a support seeker and an ACF Volunteer is a natural, friendly mentorship that is supportive in nature. ACF Volunteers never dispense any medical advice or try to diagnose a medical problem. ACF Volunteers listen, question and help thrivers through their cancer journey by sharing their own experiences. Conversation topics might include:

• What treatments and side effects feel like in the Volunteer’s experience
• Tips on dealing with side effects
• Pain issues
• Stigma and social experiences relating to the diagnosis
• Experience navigating the medical system

“I applied to be a Peer-to-Peer mentor, and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I have learned so much from my matches, and love the friendships we create, even if it only in the short term.”

Diane

“You have unique knowledge and comfort to share. Sign up to volunteer with the Peer to Peer programme… there is little more satisfying than being able to reduce the uncertainty – the fear, even – that a lonely journey through this cancer brings.”
