Anal Cancer Foundation Patient Ambassador Lillian Kreppel doesn’t care what people think … and that has allowed her to talk openly and honestly about her anal cancer, which she got because of HPV. Lillian Kreppel is a major advocate for the HPV vaccine, and she doesn’t mind discussing her disease if that will help get the word out about it.

The HPV vaccine can prevent nearly all cervical cancers, and many oral and anal cancers as well, but it’s controversial because it is recommended that children get it before they start having sex. Some people think that encourages young people to have sex. As someone who has lived through it, Lillian wants to put an end to that way of thinking. “There’s a lot of ignorance and a lot of misconceptions about it,” she says. “People need to know that HPV can cause these cancers.”
